Howard J. Jens, age 64, of Winthrop Harbor, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. He was born July 25, 1945 in Chicago to Donald and Molbee (Friedman) Jens. On January 1 2001 he married Gerry Lynne Schneider. He was a law enforcement officer with over 35 years of dedicated service to public safety. He started his career on the Evanston Police Department in 1966, moving on to work in the correctional division of Cook County Jail. He later worked as a police officer in Hainesville which then combined the law enforcement agencies of Hainesville and Round Lake Park. He retired in 2002. Howard enjoyed scuba diving, sky diving and riding his Harley Davidson with fellow officers and friends. He was a lifetime member of Hog Chapter and the Blue Knights Illinois Chapter XII. The proudest times in his life were riding his Harley Davidson for the Toys For Tots Program. He is survived by his wife Gerry Lynne; two children, Nadine (Paul Herman) Jens of Wheeling, Louis (Jennifer) Jens of Grayslake; poppy to, Joseph and Matthew; his mother, Molbee Jens of Zion; and a brother, Marc (Connie) Jens of Lincolnwood. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 23, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be private.
